Funeral Services In Tampa

Traditional funeral services are the services most selected by our families. As the name suggests, there are typical components that most traditional funerals have in common (the visitation and a funeral service). It is not uncommon, however, to have these services tailored to the tastes, traditions or religious beliefs of the family.

The Aikens Difference

Most funeral homes consider their primary function to be handling deceased human remains. Here at Aikens, we think of our job as having two parts: physical and emotional. The physical is burials, entombments, and inurnments. The emotional is working with families to design healing experiences.

It is through the funeral process that a number of emotional needs are met. The funeral declares that a death has occurred, commemorates the life that has been lived and offers family and friends the opportunity to pay tribute to their loved one. We’ve been serving all cultures, religious denominations and spiritual faiths since 1980. We understand the religious traditions and rituals that are important to families of different faiths, and are able to create funeral services that incorporate them in a proper and respectful manner.

Burial Versus Cremation

A common question we’re often asked is ‘why choose burial vs cremation?’ There is a wide variety of reasons why someone would choose burial, however if you are undecided we have provided some information to help simplify your decision.

Common Reasons People Choose Burial:
  • A Traditional Way To Say Goodbye

Burial services tend to be the more traditional choice, and if you or your loved one are more conventional, then this would likely be the choice for you. It is very common for people to consider burial the default method of saying goodbye, and honoring their loved one.

  • Follows Religious Requirements

For many, religious norms and protocol dictate the choice between burial and cremation. There are profound religious reasons families choose burial services over any other final care option. For example, the Christian concept of resurrection of the body is deeply held by many and makes burial an act of religious ceremony. Jewish families and those practicing Islamic traditions also have strong religious and social commitments to burial.

  • A Permanent Gravesite To Visit

One of the main benefits of choosing burial is that it provides a permanent gravesite or mausoleum that loved ones can visit when needed. For many people, having an allotted space at a cemetery where they can physically go to visit their loved one helps with their grieving process. Visiting the grave at the cemetery is considered by some to be a sacred event and allows them to feel a connection to their loved one during their visit.

  • Body Is More Respected

Some people are uncomfortable by the mere thought of the cremation process. There is a common misconception that the body is set on fire and that makes them feel uneasy. Others feel like the body doesn’t get the respect it deserves through cremation. On the other hand, with burial the body is placed in a beautiful casket, the loved one can be dressed in their nicest attire, and family members can add in special mementos into the casket.

  • Being Alongside Your Loved One

Another benefit of burial is that it offers the ability to lay to rest, alongside your spouse, family member, or any significant loved one. For example, if a husband passes away and is buried, his wife will likely be buried beside him so they can be alongside each other for eternity.  Quite often, families choose to prepay for a set of plots so they can all be laid to rest beside each other. The cemetery is dedicated to one family. This sense of being alongside your loved one offers a strong benefit to burial for some.

  • Personal Choice

Those are a few common reasons why people choose burial over cremation. However, in the final analysis, it is a matter of personal choice.
