Hillsborough County Provides Free Cremation Services for Low Income Families

There is not much information available, but Hillsborough County will provide cremation services for homeless and low-income citizens who cannot afford the cost of final disposition of their relative. If you have a family member who has recently passed and cannot afford cremation, you may qualify to have your loved one cremated at no cost. The death must have occurred in Hillsborough County, but the decedent does not have to be a resident to qualify.

The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner May Provide Cremation Services

If you are the next of kin and you do not have adequate funds to cover the cost of a funeral service or cremation, contact the Medical Examiner’s Office at (813) 914-4567 and speak to an investigator right away.

Let the investigator know that you are the legal next of kin and you do not have adequate funds to cover the cost of a funeral service or cremation. The cremation of your relative will occur at a government contracted facility and your loved one’s cremated remains can be returned to you for a memorial service at a later date if desired.

Call Aikens Funeral Home For Help

Unfortunately, one of the stipulations to using this government benefit program is that they will not help if you have already contacted a funeral home and they have taken your loved one into their care.

As always, Aikens Funeral Home stands ready to support you in your time of need. Therefore, contact us for more information or for help getting in touch with the Medical Examiner’s Office at (813) 914-4567
